II Samuel 6

Deeply wounded people often do not experience the presence of the Lord in their life.  There is a sense of feeling distant from Him.  It is sometimes experienced as a desert experience.  One friend said, I just need to forgive myself.  I asked, what does that mean to you?" The cross is about Jesus forgiving us.  So what keeps you from receiving that forgiveness?  He said, if I accept His forgiveness, I would need to receive his embrace.  That doesn’t seem safe for me given the smothering embrace of my mother.  I want it, but I don’t want it to be that close.  I said, so it is about intimacy with God?  Yes, he acknowledged. The enemy ...

A Wonderful Journey

I had spent considerable time choosing just the right wardrobe to impress.  I was very much chained to a role of performance, masking my true identity.  I didn't feel I measured up. I was packed and ready for my trip to The Journey.  My heart wasn't as sure.  I wanted to go, I didn't want to go.  My church elders were sending me.  They had heard some of my stories of childhood harm and could see God's restorative work in me.  They believed I could help others.    They wanted me to have this opportunity to know myself better and train to lead others on their own journey.  I wanted to honor their faith in me.  I was frightened.  It all ...

God’s Hall Of Fame

Hebrews 11:  God’s Hall of fame When I look into the faces of those who lead small groups for the wounded, I am looking into faces of faith.  You have shown up.   For those of you who minister to the wounded, thank you for your sacrifice of time and energy. God the Father sees your sacrifice and I am wondering if He is still making His hall of fame list and your names are included.  What would be written next to your names? Rather than read the whole chapter 11 of Hebrews, I have made several lists to help us see a pattern. V 1 Now, faith is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  For by it ...

FINDING REST FOR OUR SOULS

Matthew 11: 28-30   FINDING REST FOR OUR SOULS “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and You shall find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My load is light. The background is that Jesus had just been reproaching the cities that had seen his miracles and did not repent.  Then He prayed to God praising Him for revealing hidden things to babes, spoke about his relationship with the Father and the fact that no one can know the Father or Jesus unless they reveal themselves.  And then He turned to invite those listen...

Thy Word Have I Treasured In My Heart

Psalm 119: 9 -11 Thy word have I treasured in my heart. “How can a young man keep his way pure?  By keeping it according to Thy word.  With all my heart I have sought Thee; do not let me wander from Thy commandments. Thy word I have treasured in my heart that I may not sin against thee.” There was a young woman who took these words seriously and hid God's words in her heart.  She pondered the things of God.  There are other words to describe what she did:  meditate, memorize, reflect, and consider. The young woman I am referring to is Mary, mother of Jesus. Her story in the first 2 chapters of Luke reveals many things ...
