eTraining Is Here!

One of the most impactful experiences for many has been our Leader Training Weekends. This training provides practice in leading a small group, feedback from trained coaches and peers, dialogue about effective and ineffective groups, practice in conflict resolution, observation of deeper pursuit, processing of the here and now, and experience in pursuing deeper issues. In 2017, as OHM walks through this season of transition, Leader Training Weekend will not be available for participants. This leaves a significant gap. Nothing can replace the face to face interaction in ...

My first question for them was, "What do you think of when you hear the word respite?" Webster's defines respite as "a short period of time when you are able to stop doing something that is difficult or unpleasant or when something difficult or unpleasant stops or is delayed." As we discussed our plans for the weekend we each realized that this is very different from what people typically expect ...

Time to Pray

by Tracy Johnson, OHM Executive Director “We tend to use prayer as a last resort, but God wants it to be our first line of defense. We pray when there's nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at all.” ― Oswald Chambers In January 2015 we were preparing for our first Regional Journey in San Antonio, Texas when I had a conversation with Betty Lee  (a long time leader for Open Hearts in Cleburne, Texas).  "Tracy, I want to come to pray for the seminar." Her offer to come and pray was a sweet gift from heaven and I was thrilled. ...

Lent

by Tracy Johnson, OHM Executive Director "Each succeeding year, Lent calls each of us to renew our ongoing commitment to the implications of the Resurrection in our own lives, here and now."   Joan Chittister, The Liturgical Year Several years ago I began a journey to discover more about the liturgical calendar and contemplative practices.  Coming from a conservative evangelical upbringing much of what I found was new and I thoroughly enjoyed learning and beginning to consider how I might deepen my own walk with God through engaging in some of the practices I ...

Collision with Change

The collision leaves us with choices, we can turn to others and ask for their help and presence, or we can turn to ourselves and try to figure it out alone. I hope you are choosing to turn towards kind friends who can journey with you, and that you are offering your presence to those needing the same kindness in their story.
