Jesus In Community

John 11 is all about the raising of Lazarus from the dead.  Jesus let him die to the glory of God.  He could have been there.  He delayed on purpose to do a bigger more miraculous work.  Waiting for God.  What do you do while you wait for God?  What are you feeling?

The people were accusatory.  It did not occur to anyone to believe that the timing was God’s.

Even Martha and Mary were saying to him, if you had been here he would not have died.  With Martha, he conversed and told her He was the resurrection and the life…She is the one who thought he had betrayed them by not being there, yet followed Him to the grave and did not get what he was telling her.  She is the one who said, “By now there is a stench, for he has been dead for  four days.”  Did He give up on Martha? No, he kept talking to her.

Mary fell at his feet and wept and said the same thing Martha did.  With her he wept.

For those who were standing around, he involved them in the miracle.  They rolled the stone, they got to unbind Lazarus, and see his face when he first saw Jesus.

Stick around Jesus and what He is doing and you might be involved in His miracles or at least see what is happening.  You will have stories to tell.

Because of the privilege of co-leading local groups, I have heard some of these miraculous stories and been a witness to the changed lives that are the result of His work.

I heard once that He is always on time. He is never early, and never late. His timing is perfect. It just doesn’t always coincide with our expectations. One of the fruits of the Spirit is patience. Oh how difficult that is at times! Thank you for your thoughts. Insightful.
